Starting with the traditional hurling of the silver ball… St Ives Feast Day is held on the first Monday after February 3^rd to celebrate the founding of the Parish Church by St Ia in 1434; coupled with other traditional Celtic customs including the parade of to St Ia well and actual hurling of The Silver Ball.

Following on from February in to the first week of May we have the St Ives Literary Festival. Truro late night shopping…

Truro, located in the centre of Cornwall, is the county’s only city. A short 35-minute drive from St Ives, it is home to a selection of the best high street shops along with a diverse combination of independent retailers. 

The historic town can be traced back to the Bronze Age, becoming a hub of activity as a port in medieval times. Much of this lively history can be seen in the geography and lay out of the roads and the city’s lanes.

Late night shopping in the run up to Christmas is a beautiful time to see Truro lit up, with market street traders and the hustle and bustle of locals selling their Christmas wares, bringing the festive season alive every Wednesday night in the run up to the big day, a great way to see the city’s charm, whilst perusing the shelves looking for the perfect gift.

A trip to Truro for me is not complete with out a pit stop at Lemon Street Market, located near the cinema on Lemon Street, it houses a wonderful selection of independent retailers, a coffee shop and a gallery on the top floor, selling collections of some of Cornwall’s best known commercial artists. One such independent retailer being Illustrated Living, with a beautiful array of patterned and illustrated home wares and prints.

Moving down Lemon street and past the Tim Shaw sculpture of ‘Drummer Boy’ you will find Uneeka, a fair trade home wares and gift shop selling some of the best selection of original gifts you are likely to find. Uneeka is one of those shops that is hard to leave without having made a purchase, so is definitely worth tracking down whilst visiting the city on your next luxury self catering holiday.

Turning left out of Uneeka and exploring along the street you will find at the very end a blue sign with a big red heart on it, which belongs to Archie Browns – a fabulous health food shop that offers more than you would expect; with a dining experience not to be missed and extensive range of products to please any health enthusiast. The best salads are served here, along with an amazing selection of light lunches, soups and cakes, creating the perfect pit stop for any day out in town.

The city has plenty of car parking, and there is also a park and ride scheme, however the car parks are usually quite easy to find a space in. My go to is Mark and Spencer, which is located extremely centrally and is a perfect place to pick up a treat for your trip back to St Ives.
