How does the St Ives dog ban effect you?

With Easter hot on our heels, we are reminded that the seasonal dog ban from the local beaches is imminent. The St Ives dog ban is in effect from the Sunday prior to the start of the Easter holidays (Sunday 20th March) and runs through to the 30th September…

What does this mean to you and man's best friend? Well here is a handy guide to the St Ives dog ban to help you make the most of your luxury self-catering holiday:

1.     No Dogs allowed on Porthgwidden, Porthmeor and Porthminster Beach whilst the ban is in effect.
2.     No Dogs on Harbour Beach between 8.00am and 7.00pm
3.     No Dogs on Carbis Bay Beach between 8.00am and 5.00am, however between 5.00am and 8.00am the beach is open for early morning strolls.

OK, granted no stay in St Ives with your dog in the Spring and Summer (even though it is sunnier) is the same for your four-legged friend as it is in the Autumn and Winter, as your four-legged friend can’t charge across the expanse of Porthmeor Beach. But, does this need to make St Ives a no go zone for dog lovers for 6 months of the year? We think not…

St Ives is a great place to base yourself for a week self-catering in Cornwall, with its multitude of stunning coastal walks for the adventurous, circular walks like taking a stroll around the Island for those with shorter legs or even for meandering through the St Ives lanes stopping in the towns many dog friendly café’s and bars for a pit stop lunch, or even for a cheeky pint whilst your pooch rests their paws, did we forget to mention St Ives year round dog friendly beaches?

There are two tidal beaches in the town which allow unrestricted dog access all year round, Bamaluz which is located between the Harbour and Porthgwidden in front of the St Ives Museum) just around the corner from the Sail Lofts luxury self-catering apartments in Cornwall, and Lambeth Walk which is located behind the Lifeboat station. At low tide Lambeth Walk beach extends right down to the Lighthouse at the end of Smeaton's Pier.

If we have convinced you that St Ives is a year-round destination for you and your four-legged friend why not start to plan your own luxury self-catering holiday in St Ives by getting in touch with the Sail Lofts team to find out more, or why not see more on our dog friendly accommodation in St Ives by following the link below.

Best luxury self-catering in Cornwall…

Long gone are the days where you needed to bring your own linen on your self-catering holiday in Cornwall, not to mention all manner of creature comforts.  Turning up to a log cabin in the woods, in the deepest darkest depths of the southwest to realise that you passed the nearest food shop 30 miles back…

Things have changed greatly, there is now a wealth of luxury accommodation in Cornwall, and things have come along way since the holidays in the late 80s that I remember of my own childhood holidays in Cornwall. Setting off before sunrise and being bundled into our Volvo estate and trundling west along the A303 watching the sun come up and the anticipation of what was ahead of our long journey.

Being the youngest in our family for seven years meant that I was the one nominated to be squeezed into the fold up leather seat in the back of the car facing out the rear window, with the family luggage, packed like building blocks without an inch to spare.

Our childhood was spent on holiday mainly on Daymer Bay, a sand dune beach located on the North Coast, just like my Mother’s own family holiday’s in the west in the 60s. These rose-tinted memories of halcyon days spent rock pooling and fishing in the River Camel’s estuary are amongst my favourite.

Its seems as though family traditions include holidaying habits, and on speaking with many of our regular guests with young children find that they themselves were once the children spending summers building sandcastles on Porthmeor beach.

Luxury self catering vs luxury hotel

It can sometimes be hard to choose between a luxury self-catering apartment or a luxury hotel in Cornwall, luckily these do not have to be the only two options…

Comparing the options

A luxury hotel can have a lot to offer in terms of the relaxation factor whilst on holiday in Cornwall. It’s hassle free and will have all the modern conveniences of Wi-Fi, onsite restaurant and if you are lucky, a spa. With all these perks on your doorstep however does it encourage you to go out and experience your surroundings? What if you are considering a week-long stay, will your hotel room start to feel perhaps a little too cosy?

Luxury self-catering should eliminate the need for more space and offer a homely feel when away for an extended stay, putting a strong focus on a good location, and a need to be near the hub of activity for nights when you don’t feel like cooking. However isn’t it nice to not have to sit in a buffet hall first thing in the morning with other holiday makers, and instead choose your own time for breakfast in the comfort of your own four walls, whilst listening to the radio and pottering around the kitchen as your tea brews in the pot?

The downside though to luxury self-catering in Cornwall can be it feeling remote. What if something goes wrong? Who is on hand to help? Is the rental agency going to care when they are at the end of a phone? Whilst in a hotel you have the reception to report to should something be less than perfect.

Two very different opportunities for a luxury holiday, which is right for you? What if there was the possibility to have the best of both worlds…

Top tips for a St Ives self-catering holiday...

Trips to the tip of the South West are not like they were 20 years ago, modern convenience has finally caught up in even the farthest flung reaches of the Cornish County…

This is not to say that you should become complacent and think that you will find all the most modern conveniences on your doorstep, this includes there not being a well-known superstore at the end of every St Ives Terrace, instead, you will find it on your drive into St Ives, perched at the top of Carbis Bay overlooking St Ives Bay.

Sail Lofts aiding in a hassle free holiday

This pit stop can be a perfect place to pick up last minute essentials on your way into St Ives, prior to commencing your luxury self-catering holiday in St Ives, but what if it could be even easier than this, and for you to turn up to find all of your holiday essentials ready and awaiting your arrival in your holiday accommodation?

At the Sail Lofts in St Ives the team run a concierge service and can unpack online deliveries from the majority of supermarkets prior to your arrival, including deliveries from Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco, however should you prefer a more local take on your weekly shop why not try a fresh food delivery from the Cornish Food Market, and sample some of the best local produce from the Southwest.

No need for compromise

Lets now consider packing preparations, if like me, you are part of a large family and find it hard to even fit in all members of the family into the car let alone enough clothes for a week of English weather, you most certainly are not going to prioritise fitting in beach supplies. No quintessential great British Holiday is complete without a day at the beach, and St Ives is home to some of England’s finest, including Porthmeor, Porthminster and Porthgwidden.

Never fear however, should you have sadly left body boards, buckets, spades and your trusty windbreak at home due to having to choose between your own suitcase or the youngest child to fit in the car, the Sail Lofts have you covered. The onsite wet room, found in the central courtyard of the luxury apartments in St Ives holds stock of all of your beach basics, ready for a great day playing in the surf and relaxing on the Beach, guests will also find a beach towel for every family member rolled and ready for the beach by the front door of their luxury apartment along with use of a windbreak wide enough for the whole family.

It’s the small things on a holiday that make the difference between having a good day and a great day, and the Sail Lofts have you covered to aid in making every day an exceptional day in St Ives at their luxury self-catering apartments in Cornwall.
