Staying in Cornwall...

With the Christmas break well and truly over and now a distant memory, my mind is racing with opportunities to make the most out of this beautiful county in 2016 that I am lucky enough to call home by booking my very own stay-cation…

Just because some of us are fortunate enough to live in one of the world's most desirable holiday destinations doesn’t mean we make enough time to get out there and enjoy its miles of golden sandy beaches, breathtaking coastal walks, stunning quintessentially British villages and harbours, or take in the diversity of nature that calls this south-west pinnacle home.

Walking in Cornwall

Striding out of the Sail Lofts luxury accommodation in Cornwall located in St Ives you can head in either direction along the coast path and you will find two incredibly varied landscapes. Head east and you will find yourself walking the St Ives bay round into Lelant and along to Godrevy Lighthouse, where you can find hidden coves with slumbering seals, and miles of golden sand dunes.

Eating in Cornwall

Cornwall’s restaurants are amongst some of the best in Britain for producing some of the freshest dishes with produce harvested within the county grown in most cases just down the road and with fish caught straight out of the sea in the morning and on your plate in the afternoon. You cannot beat the taste of seasonal, fresh food. St Ives has a wealth of such award-winning restaurants, all within a short stroll of the Sail lofts luxury apartments in Cornwall.

Attractions in Cornwall

Falmouth is a bustling commercial fishing town, home to one of the deepest natural harbours in the world and renown Arts University, which is currently ranked within the Top 3 Arts University’s in the country. The town has a host of wonderful shops, traditional Ale taverns, museums and art galleries. For instance the Falmouth Art Gallery, open all year houses a vast collection of modern and traditional Cornish artists including the likes of Henry Scott Tuke and Charles Napier Hemy, both of which made the town home during some of their most active years of painting.

In contrast marking the town's maritime heritage is the National Maritime Museum with interactive displays introducing you to the legacy of Viking Norse men and women along with a reconstruction of a Viking boatyard complete with six metre long Viking boat.

Why choose a luxury apartment in Cornwall?

Cornwall has a diverse and mixed landscape surrounded by the sea. With its vibrant arts culture and burgeoning industries that have resulted in the county being ranked within the top 5 most desirable and searched for holiday destinations to visit in the world.

If that is not reason enough to head west, let's now consider travel, the crux of holiday stress. Cornwall has never been so well connected, accessible by train, planes and cars the county is now accessible from London in less than 4 hours, not to mention by car in roughly 4.5 hours, and by plane in only 2.

The cream of Cornwall...

Here at Sail Lofts luxury accommodation in St Ives we love to fly the local flag and where possible always hunt out the best local suppliers so we can give our guests the cream of what Cornwall has to offer.

We use a range of local suppliers and it would be impossible to list them all so we have picked a few of our favourites to highlight just why we can’t get enough of them, much to our waistlines detriment I might add…

St Ives Bakery
No trip to Cornwall is complete without at least one Cornish Cream Tea and when you check-in to Sail Lofts luxury apartments in St Ives you get just that. Awaiting you on the kitchen table is all the ingredients for a traditional cream tea and of course the scones had to be just right. During the tastings we sunk our teeth into the divinely light and devilishly good scones from St Ives Bakery and we were sold. Without doubt, the guys at St Ives Bakery have created a little piece of spongy heaven that melts in the mouth and nothing else came close. Their pasties top our pole too, and trust me; we’ve tried a few!

One of our newer suppliers, Baker Tom supply us with all the bread for our luxury welcome hampers and our guests have been raving about this newest addition.  This artisan bread is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of crust and a lovely light inside and is delicious smothered in salted Cornish butter from Trewithen Dairy, which conveniently, is also included in your welcome hamper.

Tucked away on a farm in Penzance, Polgoon Vineyard produces artisan ciders, wines and juices and supplies us with its beautiful Elderflower Pressé for our welcome hampers. Cool and crisp, a bottle of this refreshing nectar will be chilling in the fridge ready to refresh you when you arrive. Join us over Christmas and try the mulled cider – we may have enjoyed it a little too much this festive season!

In 2015 we made a number of improvements to our luxury self-catering apartments in St Ives but my absolute favourite was the introduction of gorgeous blankets from Perranporth based Atlantic Blankets. These beautifully crafted, visually stunning and sumptuously soft blankets really add the wow factor to our bedrooms and add a vibrant splash of colour that add a really cheery feel.

There are so many other fantastic suppliers we work with and these are just a few of our favourites. We hope you enjoy them too.

Barnoon Workshop...

We were so impressed by the magical Christmas lantern parade in St Ives, which was organised by the Barnoon Workshop, we decided to investigate a little further…

Nestled into Clodgey View Hill, looking across the stunning scenery of Porthmeor Beach and The Island, you will find Barnoon Workshop, which believe it or not started life as a public toilet! After the building had been stood derelict for 8 years Zoe and Pete Giles took on the challenge of renovating the site into a creative space.

The workshop is open all year round and offers a huge range of courses from regular drop-in classes, half-day activities and week-long courses. The workshop’s central location in St Ives means it’s just a 10 minute walk from The Sail Lofts luxury self catering apartments and the perfect place to keep your little ones entertained and to inspire their creative minds.  For those who love the seaside and the great outdoors, Beach Find Mosaics is the course for them; learn the art of beach combing and explore the St Ives shoreline whilst looking for treasures such as sea glass and pebbles. After trawling the coastline you will return with your collection of materials to the workshop where the Barnoon team will teach you the skills of grouting and mosaic design. If it is the more traditional medias that are of interest then there are all sorts of options from Beginners Water Colour, Drop in and Draw and How to Paint with Oil Colours to name a few. Finally if you have some budding musicians in your family then Guitar in a Day and the Song Writing workshop will no doubt keep them happy.

Though the Barnoon Workshop isn’t just for children, their courses are for all ages and interests so a trip to the workshop can be an activity for the whole family.
So next time you’re on your St Ives holiday and you’re wondering what to do on a wet weather day pop into the Barnoon Workshop and discover a new craft.

For more information please follow the links below to the website and Facebook page.:

The workshop schedules they’re activities and courses months in advance so if you like to get ahead of the crowds and plan your St Ives holiday schedule in advance contact the Barnoon team on: 07900 095203 or email: barnoonworkshop@outlook.com

Escape the hustle and bustle and whisk your loved one away to St Ives this valentines.

Nestled within our secluded complex in the heart of the historic town and seconds from the crashing waves and white sands of Porthmeor Beach. Then relax and snuggle up in the cosy sitting room and choose a film to watch on our apple TV.

Besides the award winning cuisine and accommodation in St Ives it is an extremely romantic location and there’s nothing more classic than the simple pleasures of a stroll along the Cornish cliff tops taking in the stunning scenery and expanse of ocean even if the sun isn’t shining the coastline can look moody and dramatic and you can’t beat the feel of the elements on your face.

We can also help you arrange those little extra treats to add a touch of romance. Perhaps chilled champagne, a bouquet of fresh flowers and handmade local chocolates or if you have something else in mind the team at The Sail Lofts are always happy to help.
